THE WIDOW'S OFFERING
...And He saw a certain poor widow putting in two small copper coins. And He said, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than
all of them; for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had."
Luke
21:2-4
This episode in the life and teaching of Jesus gives us a valuable lesson concerning our
commitment to the kingdom. The first lesson, of course, has to do with financial giving. We must be willing to give more than we think is "legal" .The tithe, of course, is expected. But freewill
offerings can be based on our heart and/or the need. We can give generously or just the minimal amount. Our love of Christ can encourage us to give more.
A second lesson in this context is about our commitment to His kingdom. There are full-time
disciples, and there are part-time Christians. Some people think Sunday service is enough, or we can be ready to serve each and every day.
Our commitment to Christ should correspond to what He gave in life. He was totally commited each
moment. We, too, should be ready to serve. The Lord gave all for us! We should also be willing to give all for Him and for His kingdom. Let us be available to hear and to do as Holy Spirit leads us
daily! As we are ready, He will direct and bring glory to Christ!
Apostle James
