SORROW INTO
JOY
Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament; but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned to
joy.... Therefore you too now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice; and no one takes your joy away from you.
John 16:20, 22
In these verses, Jesus is telling His disciples that they will not see Him when He is taken
away. They did not truly comprehend because their vision was that Jesus would remain and begin an earthly kingdom. But to think of Jesus being taken away saddened them immensely. It did not fit their
vision of the times.
But then, in the next moment, Jesus told them that their sorrow would turn to joy. They
would have sorrow, but their sorrow would become rejoicing! Most importantly, Jesus said that no one will be able to take their joy! Their joy would remain.
While the disciples could not understand, Jesus was speaking of eternity. He was telling
them that they would see Him again, and that no one would be able to take their joy. Why? Because they would then see and know that this life is just the beginning. They would have eternity with Him
in His eternal kingdom. Now this was truly "good news" and brought joy which could not be taken away! Saints, we have this news with the joy of it in our lives today! Rejoice and be
glad!!
Apostle James
