THE LORD'S PLUMB
LINE
Thus He showed me, and behold, the Lord was standing by a vertical wall, with a plumb line
in His hand. And the Lord said to me, "What do you see, Amos?" And I said, "A plumb line." Then the Lord said, "Behold, I am about to put a plumb line in the midst of My people, Israel. I will spare
them no longer...."
Amos 7:7-8
A plumb line was a method that builders used in olden times. By tying a small weight onto
the end of a string and allowing the weight to hold the string down, a builder could get a line to be sure the building was built correctly. The Lord showed Amos a plumb line which He would use to
see if His people were functioning according to His commands and His ways.
Saints, the Lord is in that same process today. He is going to use many methods to urge His
people to walk in His ways. We have read of the Lord being a refining fire to burn out the dross from His people. Using a plumb line is yet another method of correction for His
own.
Whatever way He chooses, it is to cause us to know His ways and to walk in them. At the end
of the age, He will bring judgment to both the righteous and the unrighteous. Let us all work to follow Him in full obedience so that we may pass whatever test He may utilize. An important thing for
us to remember is that His way is always the best way for us and for His glory!
