OBEDIENT ACTION
Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on
the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
I Peter 1:13
The word "gird" is a word which means to strengthen. In other words, we are to prepare and
strengthen our mind (spirit) to be ready. But the question then is, "Ready for what?"
In this verse, Peter is informing Christians that we are to be prepared for a word from God
to do what He asks us to do. We are to be prepared and ready to do as Father has spoken. It is a call to stay prepared to obey His will for us and for others. We must be ready to
act!
The next phase in this verse is also a command for us to be ready to hear. The word says to
"keep sober in spirit." We are to be aware and waiting. We are to be atoned to the word of Holy Spirit. When He speaks the command of God for us, then we are to hear and be ready to
obey.
Finally, there is hope for the grace to do. As we prepare our spirit by strengthening our
mind and staying sober in our spirit, we can then expect His grace to be brought to us. Grace is that divine strength to do that which He has directed for us to do.
Father is always faithful to provide what we need to be obedient to His call. He wants to
work through us to show to the world His great and amazing love!
Apostle James
