REMOVE THE LEAVEN
Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Clean out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact
unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.
I Corinthians 5:6-7
Paul is emphasizing the importance of removing all vestiges of sin from our lives. One sin,
such as boasting (bragging), can ruin our own walk and the walk of others. Sin has a way of spreading in our lives. It is similar to a viral infection. It can begin in one area and then spread. As it
spreads, it causes more and more sickness.
The word here says that we are to "clean" out the old leaven. How? First, we come to the
Lord and ask forgiveness. Cleansing always begins with repentance. Next, we must begin to ask the Spirit to reveal to us the ongoing fleshly or/and demonic cause of our need to do this sin. As we do
these things, be begin to lay the foundation for overcoming the sin.
Paul stated in these two verses a very important fact for us to realize and act upon it. He
stated that "you are in fact unleavened." When Christ died for us upon the cross, He defeated the enemy. He also allowed us a way to over-come every sin. We are to crucify the flesh and walk anew in
the power of Holy Spirit! We do not have to sin. We can overcome because of the victory of Christ though the cross. Hallelujah!!
