THE NEW HEAVEN AND
EARTH
But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which
righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, and regard the patience of our Lord to be
salvation.
2 Peter 3:13-15a
Through the prophetic word and through the teachings of the new testament, we, the
followers of Jesus Christ, know that there will be a time when the Lord will return in power. He will come and destroy the nations and the devil's demons. Then new heavens and a new earth will be set
up in which righteousness will dwell.
Peter is encouraging all of Christ's followers to stay true to our calling. We must not
allow the sufferings of being a Christian or the things of this world to keep us from following Him!
In this translation, the word "diligent" is used to describe our pursuit of the Lord and
His Kingdom. This is a word which describes the putting forth of strong effort to accomplish things. As we look forward to the next coming of Jesus, we must stay in peace, but we must also stay
committed to Him!
