THE DEPTH OF OUR
COMMITMENT
If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his
own life, he cannot be My disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
Luke 14:26-27
These
words from our Lord Jesus seem to be very harsh and demanding. Coming from Him, these words appear to be unloving and not coming from the love of Father. However, we must read these words in context
with the cost associated with following the Lord Jesus in a day of tribulation.
Jesus
knew what was coming. He knew the cost that it would take to be a faithful disciple. He spoke later to His disciples about what was in front of them and what they could expect as they sought to
follow Him. He told them that they could expect to be arrested, tortured, and even slain for preaching the kingdom.
In the
midst of such expectation, one had to know and count carefully the cost of life in Christ. To follow Him and be found faithful in the trials that would come, He wanted them to know that it could
cause them to lose their lives.
This is
not a message that has been discussed or taught in our present day! But, we must stop and consider this question for we may face such a time ourselves
Apostle James
