KEEPING HIS WORD
The
one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By
this we know that we are in Him.
I John 2:4-5
God is the supreme being of the universe. He has created all that is! His desire is to have a
personal relationship with each of His created people. But He is God! If we are to relate to Him, then we must know that it is essential that we follow His word. His word is truth and, as we follow
it, then we will have eternal life with Him.
But, as John is saying in this passage, we cannot say that we know Him if we do not follow what
He has said in His written word. It is by faith that we follow His word. We must believe that it is the true word of life. John is saying that we cannot say that we know Him and then do not do what
He says. That is disobedience! That is a lack of faith in following what He has said is the best for us and for His glory.
But, if we keep His word, then we truly are His children. We will walk in the fullness of His
truth and rejoice in it. We will have His peace and His strength. Through these things we know that we are His, and He watches over us. It is called a relationship for a reason. We love Him and
commune with Him!
