REPENTANCE TO SALVATION
.. I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the
point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God,... For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but
the sorrow of the world produces death.
Il Cor. 7:9a, 10
It is never enjoyable to be sorrowful. This is an emotion that debilitates us. It produces
unwanted feelings in us which may affect others around us. However, the cause of these feelings can result in different responses.
As Paul stated in the above scripture, those times when we are sorrowful because of the
world's problems or our own wrong attitudes can produce much sorrow. It can produce "death" of hope or purpose. These type of feelings, caused by the world, will lead us to lack of a future thereby
resulting in a loss of strength to go forward.
But, the sorrow of God leading us to repentance, will produce in us a hope for the future.
We know that Father loves us and will correct us so that we can be more fruitful. His correction leads us to a rebuilding of what should be changed. This brings hope for us and for those around
us.
Thus, as a loving Father, God corrects us not to cause death, but to lead us to a more
perfect life. We can then show Him to the world with greater glory!
Apostle James
