THE STRENGTH OF GOD
I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance, I have earned the secret of
being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:12-13
As Paul
was summarizing his letter to the church of Philippe, he shared a "secret" with them. Paul had been explaining to the church some of what he had incurred. In the previous chapter, he spoke of his
intention to "press on" to the higher calling. In so doing, he had to forget the things that were of the past. He stated that he was looking on to the things of the future. We must push on to the
things that Father has for us to do. We keep advancing!
As we
press to the things of the future, we can return to the secret that Paul was discussing in chapter 4. First, it is necessary to see that Paul had not had an easy road to follow. He had encountered
both the "good and the bad." He had been in prosperity and in want. Too many times we expect God to keep us in the "good times" continually. But that is not how Father will grow us in maturity. We
must go through the bad and the good. His "secret" was that he had to walk in Christ's strength. As the Spirit of God em-powered him, Paul could walk in humble means and in abundance! His strength
must sustain us
so we can continue
onward!
