THE SERVANT'S HEART
"
..... and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for
many."
Matthew 20:27-28
In the heart of man is always the personal survival instinct. We want to be alive and well. We
want to be comfortable. We want to be accepted and liked. We do not mind helping someone as long as it doesn't inconvenience us too much.
Yet, these words of Jesus bring a great challenge to us. They do not make sense in the normal
way of thinking. They call for us to put others first. They call for us to go out of our way to help someone else rather than to help ourself.
In the natural way of thinking, we might reject this reasoning. But, if we are to follow Jesus,
we cannot dismiss what He is saying in this passage. It is the heart of Father and His Son for us to put others first. He did so when He gave His only Son for our sins. His Son loved us so much that
He was willing to come and die for us. These are the truths in action of what the word says.
Now, if we are to be sons and daughters of the God of heaven, then we must hear and obey. The
amazing thing is that, when we do, we find that we are ones receiving a blessing. As the word says, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Praise His Holy Name!
