THE FIERY ORDEAL
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your
testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing; so that also at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice
with exultation.
I Peter 4:12-13
According to Peter, we should not be surprised at the difficulties which confront us. Peter calls these situations "fiery ordeals." This should not surprise us as Jesus himself was subjected to
intense "ordeals." His life was finished in a very difficult ordeal as He faced death, the cross, and the sacrifice of Himself on our behalf. Yet, He was without sin and was obedient to Father in all
His ways. His sacrifice brought us salvation!
Now, we
too, will face situations as we follow Him. These will produce in us, if we are obedient, the qualities that Father wants us to exhibit. We will become more like Jesus. This is a promise in His word.
As we do, we can be a greater witness for Him in this world.
But,
also as is implied in the word, we will be able to rejoice at His revelation when He returns. We can look forward to that time believing for His approval and His glory being showered upon
us.
We will
be able to share in the Kingdom as we will rule and reign with Him. To God be the glory! Don't be surprised but rule in the situation.
