FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT
But flee from these things, you man of God; and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, stedfastness, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I
Timothy 6:11-12
"Flee" and "pursue." These are very active words that Paul uses in his directions to
Timothy. The things from which Timothy was to pursue are the things of the world and flesh, primarily riches. Paul emphasized that we should flee from these things because they are the things that
pull us from the pursuit of Jesus and His kingdom. If our hearts are constantly thinking of the riches of this world, then we are not focused on the kingdom.
This does not, of course, mean that we should not work and make a living. If God has
anointed you to be a success in the business world, then do that. But, use your success there to further the kingdom.
We are, however, to fight the good fight for the faith to which we were called. We are to
war and see the kingdom of God established in the hearts and minds of people. We are to walk in such a way as portraying Jesus and the kingdom here in the earth. As we, in faith, live for Him others
will see and be drawn. But, we must keep warring. The enemy will try to derail us, but we must keep up the pursuit!
