SANCTIFY HIM AS LORD
But
sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and
reverence...
I Peter 3:15
The word is not "anyone" but "everyone" in the statement above. This would indicate that people
in general should see (and hear) the hope which we have in Christ Jesus and our salvation in Him. Our lives should reflect the hope for this life and for our eternity with and in
Him!
In order to do this, we must, as the scripture says, sanctify Him as Lord in our hearts. This
means that we are to set Him into our hearts as the Lord of our lives. We must be willing to hear and to do as He desires, We cannot be guilty of trying to be lord of our lives doing as we want with
no thought of Him or the consequences of our actions or words. Be willing to speak of Him and His goodness in our lives.
Yet, Peter says that we are to do this with gentleness. We are not to be arrogant or "better
than thou!" We are to, in reverence for Father, speak with a heart of love to those who inquire. We are to share Christ, but we are to share in such a way that they may hear as we tell them of our
great Lord and Christ. In so doing, we will reap a harvest for the kingdom. They are asking because they need hope for their lives, and He can give it to them!
