NEWNESS OF LIFE
Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore, we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in
order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we, too, might walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:3-4
Water baptism has been spoken of as simply a symbol having no real power. It is to show
that one has made a commitment to Jesus Christ. This might be true if we are only thinking of the flesh. However, if we are applying the Spirit to the process, then it is a powerful event in the life
of the believer.
The walk with Father through Jesus is a spiritual process. God is a Spirit! We, as people,
are first spiritual, then natural. That is, the spirit is the true life. The flesh will die, but the spirit of man lives forever.
When Jesus died and was raised anew, He came in His spiritual body. When we come to Father
through His Son, Jesus, then we elevate the spirit in us. As we follow in His commands, we gain new strength. When we follow Him in baptism, we are allowing the flesh to be circumcised. Then the
Spirit of Christ can bring new life to our spirit. We can walk in newness of life overcoming the flesh and sin. Water baptism brings power to us to overcome sin!
