PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT
And in
the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for
words. Romans 8:26
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith; praying in the Holy
Spirit. Jude 20
When people ask, "Why do you pray in the Spirit (in tongues)?", you might quote these two
verses. We must remember that Holy Spirit is given to us to give us power and authority! Holy Spirit is God Himself! The mind of the Spirit is the mind of Christ! He knows Father intimately because
He and the Father are One!
Therefore, praying with the mind of Christ means that we can pray knowing that our prayers are
heard! They will be prayers which reach the mind and heart of our Father in heaven. As we pray in the Spirit, He prays through us.
In the Romans verse, it is clear that we do not always know how to pray as we should. But the
Spirit intercedes and prays as we should. His prayers through us are effective and pointed.
In the verse in Jude, a second benefit is introduced. As we pray in the Spirit, it builds our
faith to a greater level as we know that God is in us and is praying through us. We can always pray knowing that our prayers are powerful.
Apostle James
