NOT OF THIS WORLD (REALM)
I
have given them Thy word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not ask Thee to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the
evil one. They are not of the world even as I am not of the world.
John 17:14-16
In
this passage, Jesus is talking about the difference between the realm of the kingdom and the realm of the godless - the "world." When we became Christian, we were transferred from the realm of the
godless to the realm of the kingdom. Even though we are still in this "world", Jesus said we are not "of the world." We do not partici-
pate in the deeds of the evil
one or of the flesh. Therefore, we are not of the worldly realm.
Jesus, in His High Priestly prayer, asked Father to keep us from the evil one and not to take us out of the world. But He did ask Father for His protection over us. As emissaries for Christ and
His kingdom, we are to be "in the world" so that we might represent Him in the world. By so doing, we can spread the word of Him and the kingdom. We can persuade others to come to Him and have
eternal life in Him.
As
we are in this world, we will have to war and to battle. The enemy will try to stop us. But, Jesus asked Father to keep us from the evil one. So, we can freely share the good news with others. We
have the victory in Him!
Apostle James
