THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU
FREE
Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you abide in My word,
then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
John 8:31-32
After saying these things to the people, many questioned Him and stated that they were
Israelites and were not slaves to anyone. Jesus, however, was not speaking of their physical bonds! He was referring to their spiritual standing. Even as they were "alive", they were not free because
they were enslaved to the law. They were in bondage to do what the law said. Since they could not "live" all the law, they would be condemned to die for eternity! Jesus was trying to tell them truth
of a spiritual nature. If they truly knew Him, they would learn the truth that He would died for their sins under the law!
Since Jesus would die after living a perfect life, He would become the "Passover lamb!" God
would "passover" their sins because a perfect lamb had died in their place. He would shed His blood to take away their sin! Because of His act and Father's mercy, each person could be free. They
could serve the Father and King Jesus because of His truth!
Apostle James
