THE TRUTH SETS US FREE
Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
"If you abide in My word" is a conditional phase. It has an "if, then" which must be kept if the promise is to become reality. In this sentence, the "if" is abiding in His word. The "then" is you will be disciples of mine. When we do not abide, then we cannot say that we are His disciple.
The "abiding" is to hear, accept, and do! We do not abide if we only hear. For the word to be real in us, it must determine our thoughts and then our actions! If we do these, then we will be counted as His disciples!
As we "do" the words of Jesus, then we will come into the reality of the truths of God which are the reality of the truths of God which are the foundational truths of the reality of His creation. They are the basis of life lived with purpose and fruitfulness. We are "set free" as we finally know the true reason for our existence. We will walk in His truth which is the only real truth! Abide and be set free!
