LET'S NOT BE PHARISEES
Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things, and do not do them.
Jesus, in His description of Pharisees, was not kind to them. In this chapter, He exposed their hypocrisy openly. He stated that they taught things of God, but were guilty of not doing as they said.
A hypocrite is such a person. They say one thing but do another. Jesus was very critical of this because it led many people astray as they heard and then observed the actions and attitudes of Pharisees.
Jesus warned His disciples that we are not to be as Pharisees. We are called to not only hear what He says but to be obedient to do! When we show to others that we say one thing and do another, they dismiss what we have said. We must strive to be as Jesus was. We speak and we do!
If we are to be His light to the people around us, let us not dim His light. Let His light shine in our actions as well as word!
