THE BLOOD OF CHRIST
....how much more wil the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
For hundreds of years, the Jewish people had followed the Law and offered blood sacrifices (bulls and lambs) to atone for their sins. Year after year they had tried to cover their shortcomings and sins!
But now, Jesus, having lived a sinless life, had offered Himself to Father as a living sacrifice. This was not a sacrifice to "cover" our sins for one year, but this was a "perfect" sacrifice that would take our sins away as far as the east is from the west never to need another sacrifice. God had provided His own Son to become our "sacrificial lamb."
Now, we, as children of the living God, must strive to become obedient, loving children. He has given us the Holy Spirit to empower us to grow, to mature, and to obey! We can live above sin and be obedient as we learn to die to self and allow Him to live through us! At the least, we are called to earnestly strive to obey in every case! Saints, die to self; live for Him!
